Timberon Mail Boxes
Our long-time postmistress retired and consequently, the Timberon Post Office closed after 40 years of service to the Timberon community. It was a contracted site, and the contract agreement did not cover the actual costs of maintaining the post office inside a building for the community, so nobody picked up the contract to continue it.
Since Timberon did have an established zip code, the Cloudcroft branch provided these ‘cluster boxes’ for the community. It was a great relief, because in the interim – Timberon residents had to travel 35 miles to Cloudcroft to retrieve their mail and post letters and packages.
The space for the mailboxes was provided by the Timberon Water & Sanitation District. The boxes are located in the Timberon Lodge parking lot area, near the swimming pool.
The Timberon Development Council ran a fundraiser to build a cover over the cluster boxes and protect the residents from snow and rain during the seasons. They hired a contractor to install them and they were completed in the spring of 2023.
Many thanks to the TDC, the contractor Honario Duran and crew, and the generous donations from the Timberon community.
