Dirt Roads and Rollovers

Well, it WAS a quiet day at work until two guys came rushing in about 2 hours before closing, panicked because there is no cell phone service in Timberon and they needed us to call 911.  They had seen a rollover out on Merlin Dr just where it Y’s off to Hoover.

I called 911 (I do this about 4 times a year) and relayed the information to the 911 operator.  They always ask a bunch of questions.  Who was involved (adult male, adult female, and three young children) What kind of vehicle (white Ford Explorer).  Is it in the road (it is upside down in a ditch) How far out Merlin (about a mile).

Life Flight helicopter came quickly, ambulances were deployed, and that’s all I heard until the sirens when Cloudcroft EMT came in to help.

They were back on the airfield when I went home from work.  Two ambos, the fire chief truck, the ‘copter, and Otero County Sheriff.

I later learned that it was friends of ours and their three young children.  The dad, the mother and three kids are banged up but OK.

I’m grateful it was not worse.
