The Hagglund Snow-Track is Back For The Winter
On my bi-weekly shopping trip today, I passed the Army’s all-terrain snow tractor parked in its designated spot on the Sunspot Highway. I look forward to seeing this guy every year. The front plate reads US ARMY. I’ve never seen it deployed, but apparently, it can go anywhere. It’s armored, like a little tank, and can carry 17 people.
Shopping from the mountain is a day-long trip. It’s 50 miles each way and takes a little over an hour to Alamogordo. The whole trip is about 6 hours with the two grocery stores, filling up the truck and the gas cans, and swinging through the hardware store or the pharmacy. It’s exhausting, but somehow I enjoy it. I listen to an audiobook and enjoy the mountain scenery.
In town, there’s traffic, people, and noise. I’m always glad to get back to the mountain.
