The Timberon Water & Sanitation District Board met Tuesday evening at the Lodge, and it was a packed agenda. Here’s the rundown for anyone who couldn’t make it.
The Basics
Water production for August: about 6.67 million gallons total between the two wells. Water loss numbers are not available yet since gallons-sold data wasn’t ready in time.
Meter reader Jerry is moving on (last day was the Friday after the meeting), so the District will be hiring for that spot. Fortunately, a replacement for Leo has been hired with experience in database administration and I.T.
Budget update: Q4 FY26 is approved, and next year’s budget (FY27) is under review, likely to come back for approval soon.
Litigation Updates
The Board confirmed the Jessica Roberts matter has been settled (the vote to settle actually happened back at the August 24 special meeting). She won’t be returning to work with the District. When asked, the Chairman couldn’t share the settlement dollar amount at this time, but confirmed that it was all over and done with.
The Board also acknowledged two new lawsuits filed against the District by former employees, each with separate legal representation. The Board voted to bring on outside counsel for one of the cases; the other case will be handled by the District’s existing retained attorney.
Infrastructure & Operations
- The Board voted to prioritize a new dedicated water line from the Treatment Plant to Storage Tank #2, based on a proposal from Water Operator Shields, and will be looking into funding/grant options.
- The Board approved adjusting the altitude valve at Tank 6 (25 seconds closing, 20 seconds opening) to help reduce water hammering in the system.
- SCADA remote-viewing access and the leak detection effort are both still in progress. There’s some disagreement about how (or whether) to allow outside/remote access, and that discussion is ongoing.
- Alex (the Level 4 Operator) will be on the mountain collecting pressure data and working through PRV station issues tied to the recent main breaks.
Committees & Governance
- The Budget Committee turns out to already exist (per the bylaws), so there was no need to re-establish it. It just needs a new chair since Richard McMullen is no longer available. That piece got tabled for now.
- The Board floated the idea of a dumpster committee to help tackle ongoing dumpster station challenges. Steve, Tim, and Paul from the community stepped up as volunteers, with Steve as chair. Nothing formal yet; expect this to come back as an official agenda item.
- The Board voted to move forward on organizing a nominating committee for future Board vacancies, and to eventually add it to the Bylaws (that part still needs to go through a couple of readings before it’s official).
Community & Facilities
- About the slash pits: TVFD volunteers offered to take over pushing the slash into the pits weekly, since the TWSD field crew has its hands full with ongoing leak repairs.
- Good news for pool lovers: TDC is working on getting the pool ready for the 2027 season. Discussion touched on lifeguards, fundraising, and possible sponsors.
- The Board approved renting out the Lodge kitchen to Annamarie and Randy Waldon for $100/month (utilities included), they’ll be running canning and pickling classes there.
Everything Else
A community member asked about the status of the foreclosures — no new information yet. Chairman Robb closed out with a reminder that the Board is committed to keeping things transparent for the community.
