Special Board Meeting Recap – June 26, 2025

The Timberon Water & Sanitation District board held a special meeting on Thursday, June 26 at the Lodge. All five board members were present, along with Board Secretary Nanette Thorell. Chairman David Cruey called the meeting to order at 4:00 PM.

After the Pledge of Allegiance and salute to the New Mexico flag, the board approved the agenda and entered into a closed session to discuss several sensitive matters: personnel, a contract negotiation, and access to confidential employee information.

Actions Taken After Closed Session

The board reconvened at 5:40 PM, and Vice Chair Edward Hardesty noted that no action had been taken during the closed session itself. Once back in open session, the board voted on two significant items:

  • Termination of Level 4 Operator Contract:
The board voted to terminate the contract with Level 4 Operator David Hunter. The vote was split 2–2, with Vice Chair Hardesty and Director Burmeister voting in favor, and Treasurer Duckett and Director Robb voting against. Chairman Cruey broke the tie in favor of termination, making the final vote 3–2.

  • Next Steps for Level 4 Coverage:
The board also voted to begin discussions with a potential candidate for the Level 4 Operator position and to reach out to Alejandro S. about possibly filling the role on a contract basis. This vote also resulted in a 2–2 split and was decided by Chairman Cruey, passing with the same 3–2 majority.

The board also reviewed issues related to security and employee data access. No decisions were needed on that item—just clarification.

Community Concerns
Several audience members raised questions about whether a Level 4 Operator is required, especially in the context of Timberon’s water sources (both well and surface water) and the availability of water for fire suppression. Chairman Cruey welcomed additional questions and encouraged residents to submit them to the Board Secretary for inclusion on the next agenda.

Meeting Adjourned
The meeting wrapped up at 6:08 PM.
