Cows Are Going Off-Mountain

They’re bringing the summer cattle off the mountain.   They winter down in the flatlands and finish up here in the mountains where they can graze on the grass.  There are a few left, this picture is from earlier in the summer when the calves were young.

We hired a local kid to move and stack wood for us yesterday.  Now we have a pile of juniper firewood outside the front door where it will stay warmer, and easier to reach.  We did try and move it ourselves, but all that bending and lifting – no good for this Jane.  Best to have the young’uns do it, and they earn a little pocket money too!

The electric company sent me a letter yesterday that one of my power poles is leaning too much, and I need to get it fixed by a ‘licensed electrician’.  Well that sounds expensive.  We called a friend of ours, a lineman, for advice.  Worried about the cost.

A note about the title: Off-Mountain is a local term.  A kind of Timberon slang meaning just what it says, but used as a noun.
